The Utah juvenile court fines were updated this past June, so we thought we’d keep you informed about potential juvenile court fines your child could face if he chooses to commit certain crimes or infractions. Some of the crimes you may be a little more worried about than others.

If your child decides to hold a live raccoon or coyote in captivity, he could be charged a juvenile court fine of $300.

Commercial harvesting of brine shrimp or brine shrimp eggs can cost $225.

This particular crime may not seem obviously juvenile-related, but if your child attempts to bribe a state meat/poultry inspector, it could cost him a fine of up to $5000 and a possible prison sentence of up to 5 years. Also, the juvenile would have to appear in court.

Hopefully your kid will know better than to give prohibited treatments to others such as psychiatric treatments, shock treatments or mental health counseling. These offenses come with a standard $500 fine and a mandatory court appearance.

Lying about your age to a tanning facility employee will cost a juvenile $225. Legally you have to be 18 years old or older to tan without permission in Utah.

Here’s a crime that a juvenile might actually attempt. If your child tries to purchase alcohol, he will automatically be fined $300. Then, the court shall order 20-100 hours of compensatory service. A youth may be able to count completing a substance abuse treatment. Also, if the youth is 13-18, his driving privilege has to be suspended. That suspension may be reduced if the child completes an approved educational series.

Even though most of the crimes we have listed won’t ever cross your child’s radar, we do want to impress upon you that there are numerous crimes your child can be charged with. That’s why you should contact a Utah juvenile defense attorney if your child is facing any criminal charges. An attorney can help you and your child understand the juvenile court system and communicate with law enforcement on your behalf. Make that important phone call today.
